Melanie Hill

Nation/Clan: Seneca Nation/Turtle Clan
Media:I shoot color and B&W Photography. I like to take pictures of the traditional side of my life, nature and the teachings I have learned.

Artist Resume:

During the 80’s and 90’s I worked as a photo-lab technician in a professional photo lab. You could say I was in the dark most of the time. I printed in multiple darkrooms turning negatives from professional photographers into weddings, proms, HS senior portraits, glossies and slides. Having worked as a lab tech for so long I wanted to shoot my own photographs, that is when I bought my Canon 35mm film camera. I was stubborn until the bitter end refusing only until this year to purchase my Canon 35mm digital camera. I enjoy being an amateur photographer taking pictures when the spirit moves me.

Some of my work has been shown in Seneca Nation Fall Festival, Seneca Iroquois Museum, Seneca Niagara Casino, C.G. Jung Center Gallery and St. Bonaventure’s Quick Center for the Arts and on the cover of NRAG 2013 Calendar.

Artist Statement:

The focus of my photography is my people, my culture and all things natural. I am a spiritual person and feel the spirits of all living things. I believe my photographs capture the spirituality of what I am trying to express.
